It is funny how you can be doing something; a new adventure idea sparks up out of nowhere. While knee-deep working on a new database of local businesses, I came across SAKE... yes, Arizona Sake, and it stopped me in my tracks.
What? There's a Sake Brewery in Arizona... And it's only an hour away from my base camp... This was a worthy distraction and needed exploration, so I dug in, and this is the story.
I jumped on Google hoping to find a website, and www.ArizonaSake.com was found. I did my 30 sec. glance, making sure the company was legit enough to venture on. Things looked right, so I just needed to know how to get my hands on their sake. Luckily, a couple of locations in Holbrook offer Arizona Sake on retail. West End Liquor Store was the location I picked as my destination, and I headed out to see what Charmayne's thoughts were.
Sake, Yes, Please! is the response I received when telling Charmayne the story. To raise the stakes, I also suggested grabbing dinner at China Buffet... an obvious choice for dinner when you're in Holbrook and a deal clincher.
The day has reacted mid-afternoon. It's
sunny, turning overcast with the rain starting. Gassed up and road trip ready, we head out. The road from St. Johns to Holbrook is 50 miles long, straight, rolling highway, often with strong winds and dust blowing. The rain is a welcome respite, and as we roll on, the rain comes down harder and harder; one of my favorites is driving in the rain.
About 3/4th the way to Holbrook, you pass the southern entrance of the Petrified National Forest. I will visit and share my PNF story one day, but Sake is the story right now, so we roll on. I love the high desert on the Colorado Plateau during the monsoon season. You can see for miles around you, and all the storm clouds dropping their watershed is awesome.
And as we reach Holbrook, the sun returns, shining bright once more. Great Chinese food, Locally Crafted Sake, and a glorious road trip... who can ask for more?
Please share your Arizona Sake Story.
I love the last picture. Fabulous! I would actually hang a copy of that in my home.
